Thane and Navi Mumbai Students Shine at Amazon’s Think Big Science Carnival 2025

Students from government schools in Thane and Navi Mumbai showcased their innovative prowess at the sixth annual Think Big Science Carnival, hosted by Amazon. Held at the CIDCO Exhibition Centre in Navi Mumbai, the event drew over 2,800 students, 100+ teachers, government officials, and industry representatives.

The carnival, part of the Amazon Think Big Spaces program in collaboration with the Learning Links Foundation, aims to inspire students from underserved communities to explore careers in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math). This year’s theme, “Inclusive Innovation”, encouraged participants to solve real-world problems through technology and engineering.

More than 260 projects were submitted, addressing United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Among the top innovations were:

  • Electronic Health Card – Winner of the top prize
  • Smart Train Coupling and Ticket Scanning Machine – Recognized as runners-up
  • Insulin Cooling Box – Best Innovation Award
  • Elder Care Wheelchair – Best Presentation Award
  • Women’s Safety Device – Popular Choice Award

Sergio Loureiro, Vice President of Global Data Center Operations, AWS, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the importance of a “builder’s mindset” for students. Sangharatna Khillare, Deputy Commissioner, Education/ETC Center/LAW/Dr. Ambedkar Memorial Center, NMMC, praised Amazon and the Learning Links Foundation for empowering students to excel in STEM disciplines.

The guest of honour, Prateek Khandelwal, a social entrepreneur and founder of RampMyCity, highlighted the significance of inclusivity in societal progress. “When students become part of the solution, we pave the way for a nation where everyone thrives,” he said.

The event celebrated the creativity and ingenuity of India’s youth, inspiring them to become future innovators and problem solvers.
