India’s First Minimally Invasive Complex Heart Surgery Performed at Narayana Health City

Innovative Technique Revolutionizes Heart Surgery, Minimizing Recovery Time

Narayana Health City, Bengaluru, has achieved a milestone in cardiac care by performing India’s first minimally invasive complex heart surgery using the left anterior mini-thoracotomy approach.

This advanced procedure addressed both a faulty mitral valve and a blocked coronary artery through a small incision between the ribs, offering patients reduced pain, faster recovery, and shorter hospital stays compared to traditional surgeries.

A 66-year-old patient with diabetes and hypertension, who had suffered from breathlessness and palpitations for months, underwent the procedure. The four-hour surgery led by Dr. T. Kumaran, Senior Consultant, Cardiac Surgery-Adult, saw the patient discharged within three days and resuming normal activities in two weeks.

“This technique minimizes risks such as excessive blood loss and severe post-operative pain, making it ideal for quicker recovery,” noted Dr. Kumaran.

This success heralds a promising future in advanced heart care for complex conditions in India.
