Dürr delivers 20,000th painting robot, marking milestone in automotive automation

German engineering company Dürr has delivered its 20,000th painting robot, marking a milestone in automated vehicle painting. The robot, from the company’s new EcoRP4 generation, has been installed at Ford’s Valencia plant in Spain, where it operates in a new primer station on the exterior painting line for the Ford Kuga.

Installed in August 2026, the EcoRP4 L033L/R uses Dürr’s EcoBell4 rotary atomizer to apply primer precisely while reducing paint consumption and operating costs.

The fourth-generation EcoRP4 platform is designed to lower lifecycle costs, simplify maintenance and offer greater flexibility. It supports floor-mounted, tower and linear-rail configurations.

The new primer station also incorporates Dürr’s EcoMCC3 A/B colour changer and EcoBell4 Pro 2x1K atomizer. Combined with the company’s high-transfer-efficiency (HTE) process, these technologies help reduce paint losses, overspray, operating costs and volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions.

Marcus Treppschuh, Senior Vice President Sales and Marketing at Dürr, said the milestone reflected decades of experience in automated painting and the company’s continued focus on combining innovation with established technologies.

Dürr’s presence in Spain’s automotive sector dates back to 1998, when the country received its first painting robot from the company.

The Dürr Group generated sales of nearly €4.2 billion in 2025 and employs around 17,500 people across 123 locations in 32 countries. Its operations span automotive, industrial automation and woodworking technologies.
