
A student of Galgotias University has received international recognition after securing the Richard E. Merwin Student Scholarship, while the university’s student chapter also won a national award at a technology event.
According to the university, Gaurang Pant, a third-year B.Tech student in Computer Science and Engineering, was selected for the scholarship by the IEEE Computer Society. The scholarship recognises students worldwide for academic performance, leadership and contributions to the computing community.
Pant became the first student from the university to receive the scholarship, which was instituted in memory of Richard E. Merwin.
In addition, the IEEE Computer Society Galgotias University Student Chapter received the ‘Best Computer Society Chapter in India’ award at the All India Computer Society Student and Young Professionals Congress 2025 held in Kolkata.
The chapter also secured first place in the national “Battle of Chapters” competition, which evaluated student chapters on technical activities, leadership and community engagement. The recognition included a cash award of USD 500.
The university said the achievements highlight student participation in global technology communities and academic initiatives related to computing and innovation.
Galgotias University stated that such recognitions reflect its focus on encouraging research, leadership and industry engagement among students in technology and engineering disciplines.
