Cloudflare has launched two new AI security features that enable businesses to monitor how employees and automated systems use artificial intelligence (AI), while helping control costs and reduce data security risks.
The company introduced Identity-Aware AI Gateway and User Insights, which allow IT and security teams to track AI usage at an individual level. The tools identify which employee or automated agent is sending requests to AI models, monitor AI-related spending, and detect unusual activity in real time.
According to Cloudflare, the growing adoption of AI in workplaces has increased concerns over rising AI expenses and the possibility of sensitive business information being shared with external AI platforms. The new tools are designed to provide organisations with greater visibility into AI usage without disrupting employees’ workflows.
Identity-Aware AI Gateway integrates with an organisation’s identity and Zero Trust infrastructure, enabling every AI request to be linked to a verified user instead of a shared API key. This allows companies to enforce access controls, set spending limits for individuals or teams, and maintain detailed records of AI requests.
The User Insights feature analyses AI usage patterns for each employee and automated system, generating alerts if activity deviates from normal behaviour. It can also identify opportunities to reduce costs by highlighting instances where less expensive AI models could perform the same tasks.
Cloudflare said the platform offers a single dashboard to monitor AI traffic across different AI tools and providers. It also includes features such as request caching, rate limiting, and automatic filtering of sensitive information, including passwords and employee data, before it is sent to external AI services.
The company said the new capabilities aim to help organisations adopt AI securely while giving IT teams better control over AI usage, spending and data protection.
