Thick Fog Engulfs Delhi-NCR, Disrupting Visibility and Traffic

A dense layer of fog blanketed Delhi-NCR on Friday morning, significantly reducing visibility and causing disruptions in daily activities. The weather phenomenon led to delays in both road and rail traffic, as commuters struggled to navigate through the low-visibility conditions.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the visibility dropped to as low as 50 meters in some areas, prompting authorities to issue advisories for cautious travel. Several flights at the Indira Gandhi International Airport experienced delays, and trains arriving and departing from Delhi also reported disruptions.

The thick fog is attributed to a combination of high humidity, low temperatures, and calm winds, a typical occurrence during the winter season in North India. The minimum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 6°C, with the cold wave expected to persist in the coming days.

Commuters faced challenges on key highways and city roads, with reports of minor accidents due to the poor visibility. Authorities have urged drivers to use fog lights and maintain reduced speeds to ensure safety.

The fog is expected to lift by late morning as the sun rises, but similar conditions are likely to return overnight, IMD officials warned. Residents are advised to plan their travel accordingly and stay updated on weather forecasts.
