Social worker and Congress leader from Shakur Basti, Satish Luthra, has initiated a large-scale sewage cleaning campaign to resolve a decade-long crisis in Peeragarhi Camp. The initiative was warmly welcomed by over 500 residents who have long endured unbearable living conditions caused by the blocked sewage system.
For over ten years, the residents of Peeragarhi Camp suffered from sewage water flooding their homes and streets. The persistent stench, contaminated water, and severe health risks forced several families to abandon their homes. The blocked sewage line made daily life unbearable, with incidents of accidents and contaminated water flowing through household taps being alarmingly common.
Determined to bring relief to the community, Mr. Luthra arrived at the camp with a team of civil engineers and modern equipment to tackle the problem. He assured residents of his commitment to addressing their grievances and holding officials accountable for years of negligence. “For a decade, the residents of Peeragarhi have lived in inhumane conditions. I stand with them and will ensure no negligence of this kind goes unchecked. The time for change has come,” he stated, criticizing the Delhi government for its lack of action.
Dr. Kishan, who assessed the health risks, described the situation as dire, with sewage water posing significant health hazards. Civil engineer Brijmohan pointed to technical flaws in the drainage system, which he said could be rectified with proper measures. Congress Block President Ms. Kamlesh Sharma also blamed the AAP government for ignoring the plight of Peeragarhi residents.
The campaign has rekindled hope among residents for a permanent solution, marking a new chapter of relief and progress for the community.
