NIIMS Medical College & Hospital organized an impactful awareness workshop under the “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan,” aligned with the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment’s vision for a drug-free India. Over 300 students participated, pledging to stay drug-free and support rehabilitation efforts.
Led by Dr. Ranjana Singh, Head of the Department of Community Medicine, the workshop focused on prevention, education, and recovery. She urged students to channel their passion into career growth and education rather than substance abuse. “If anyone wants to be addicted, be addicted to your self-growth,” she said.
The event featured a walkathon across the NIIMS campus and a role play by the MBBS Batch of 2022, illustrating the devastating effects of drug addiction. The day concluded with a solemn pledge ceremony, reinforcing the commitment to fight substance abuse in communities.
India faces a rising challenge, with nearly 3 crore people reporting substance use disorders and 5.7 crore dependent on alcohol. Drug addiction severely impacts both physical and mental health, increasing the risk of heart disease, depression, and psychosis.
Dr. Sangeeta Dewan, the programme’s Nodal Officer, emphasized the need for collective action to address this growing crisis. Dean Dr. Ashutosh Niranjan and Associate Dean Dr. Arun Chaudhary also motivated students to act as agents of change. NIIMS Medical College reaffirms its commitment to building a healthier, addiction-free India.
