Governments Urged to Adopt Gender-Responsive Budgeting for Inclusive Growth

Gender-responsive budgeting (GRB) is a crucial tool for driving systemic change and fostering inclusive economic growth, according to new research by ACCA. The report, Gender-Responsive Budgeting: Unlocking the Potential, highlights how professional accountants can play a key role in its effective implementation.

Speaking ahead of International Women’s Day, Md. Sajid Khan, Director – India at ACCA, emphasized the need for governments to integrate GRB into policy frameworks. “Accountants bring expertise in data analysis, budgetary techniques, and policy advocacy, making them instrumental in monitoring and evaluating GRB’s impact,” he said.

The report outlines key recommendations for policymakers, including building institutional capacity, improving data collection, learning from global best practices, fostering inter-ministerial collaboration, and promoting gender-balanced leadership.

Jessica Bingham, Global Sustainability Lead – Strategy at ACCA, stressed the importance of incorporating gender considerations into budgetary processes. “GRB ensures fair resource allocation that meets diverse societal needs, laying the foundation for sustainable growth and social inclusion,” she noted.

As governments worldwide focus on achieving equitable development, ACCA urges them to embrace GRB as a strategic tool for addressing gender disparities and fostering long-term economic resilience.
