IPC rebrands after 70 years, unveiling new mission, global study on electronics trade

IPC, the global leader in electronics standards and certifications, has officially rebranded as the Global Electronics Association. The new name marks a pivotal shift in the organization’s 70-year journey, aligning its identity with the modern, expansive scope of the $6 trillion global electronics industry.
The Association unveiled a new vision — “Better electronics for a better world” — focused on building a resilient, innovation-driven supply chain that spans more than 3,000 member companies and collaborates with governments across continents.
“The electronics industry has evolved dramatically. We’re now at the heart of AI, autonomous tech, and next-gen communications,” said Tom Edman, Board Chair and CEO of TTM Technologies. “This transformation reflects that broader purpose.”
As part of its expanded mission, the Association will retain the IPC brand for its vital standards and certification programs. Meanwhile, the IPC Education Foundation is now renamed the Electronics Foundation, continuing efforts to bridge the talent gap in the industry.
Alongside the announcement, the Association released a landmark global trade flows study showing electronics make up over 20% of global merchandise trade. In 2023 alone, the sector accounted for $4.5 trillion in trade, with components like semiconductors and connectors forming more than half that value.
“The electronics ecosystem is deeply interconnected. No single country can go it alone,” said Dr. John W. Mitchell, President and CEO. “This rebrand is about reinforcing collaboration to strengthen the global supply chain.”
The Association operates in over 10 countries, including India, China, the U.S., and Germany, supporting the full electronics value chain from design to delivery.
