The Federation of Hotel & Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI) has strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, calling it a senseless act of violence that threatens the region’s hard-earned peace and prosperity. Expressing condolences to the victims and their families, FHRAI reaffirmed its support for the people of Jammu & Kashmir.
The association noted that the attack comes at a time when Kashmir is witnessing unprecedented growth in tourism. In 2024, the region recorded 34.98 lakh visitors, including over 43,000 foreign tourists. Pahalgam alone welcomed 5.5 lakh visitors in the first quarter of 2025, underscoring its popularity as a major tourist hub.
This tourism surge has significantly contributed to local employment and economic revival, reflecting a return to normalcy and a more hopeful future for the Valley. FHRAI credited this growth to consistent efforts by the Government of India and the Union Territory administration in promoting Kashmir through global events and digital campaigns. Events like the G20 Tourism Working Group meeting in Srinagar and the F4 car show have further boosted the region’s global image.
“Tourism is the backbone of Jammu & Kashmir’s economy, and the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam is a grave assault on the region’s prosperity and the well-being of its people. We must ensure that such acts of violence do not hinder the region’s progress. The safety and security of both tourists and locals must remain our top priority,” said Mr. K. Syama Raju, President of FHRAI.
FHRAI has called for immediate measures to ensure security in the region and protect the tourism sector from further disruption.
