The voter turnout for the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections has reached a historic low, marking the lowest participation rate since 2008. According to preliminary estimates, around 60.42% of eligible voters exercised their franchise, a significant drop compared to previous elections.
This decline continues a trend observed in recent years. In 2015, Delhi saw its highest-ever voter participation at 67.5%, but this dipped to 62.8% in 2020. The latest figures indicate further disengagement among voters.
Despite the lower turnout, polling was conducted smoothly across all constituencies, with a three-cornered contest among major political parties. A total of 699 candidates were in the fray, battling for 70 assembly seats.
With counting scheduled for February 8, all eyes are now on the outcome, which could reshape the political landscape of the capital. If a clear majority is secured, the formation of the new government is expected by February 11.
The declining voter participation raises concerns about civic engagement and political interest in the city, prompting discussions on ways to boost voter enthusiasm in future elections.
