
Noida International Institute of Medical Sciences (NIIMS) College & Hospital organised the THALCARE SUMMIT 2026 Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on the theme “Thalassemia: Challenges in Diagnosis & Management”, bringing together more than 130 delegates, including doctors, clinicians, academicians and healthcare professionals from across the country.
The CME programme was jointly organised by the Department of Pediatrics and the Department of Pathology at NIIMS, Greater Noida, with a focus on enhancing awareness, strengthening clinical understanding and discussing advancements in thalassemia diagnosis and management.
The organising committee included Dr. (Col) Arun Chaudhary, Professor and Head, Department of Pathology, and Dr. Amit Modi, Professor and Head, Department of Paediatrics, as organising chairpersons, while Dr. Vertika Gupta, Associate Professor, Department of Pathology, and Dr. Avinash Jha, Assistant Professor, Department of Paediatrics, served as organising secretaries.
The summit was organised under the leadership of Dr. Devesh Kumar Singh, Chairman of Noida International University, Dr. Vikram Singh, Chancellor of the university, and Dr. S. N. Gupta, Director of NIIMS. The conveners included Dr. (Brig) Ranjit Ghuliani, Medical Superintendent, and Dr. Manisha Jindal, Dean.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Amit Modi highlighted the importance of medical education, innovation and collaborative healthcare practices in improving patient outcomes. Dr. Avinash Jha said the summit marked the first edition of THALCARE SUMMIT and featured five expert sessions and two panel discussions on various aspects of thalassemia care.
The event also included awareness-focused activities such as quiz competitions, reel-making, rangoli-making and poster-making contests.
Chief Guest Dr. R. K. Gupta, Professor and Director of Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), said the summit’s theme was highly relevant in the current healthcare landscape and appreciated the efforts of faculty members, mentors and students in promoting awareness about thalassemia.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Vikram Singh said the university and NIIMS remain committed to promoting clinical excellence, medical research and interdisciplinary learning through academic platforms and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
Dr. S. N. Gupta said thalassemia continues to be a major healthcare concern and emphasised the need for greater awareness, early diagnosis and effective management practices.
The summit featured participation from several healthcare experts, including Dr. Nita Radhakrishnan, Professor and Paediatric Hemato-oncologist at Post Graduate Institute of Child Health (PGICH), Dr. Jyotsna Madaan, Professor, Department of Pathology, PGICH, Dr. Mukesh Dhankar, Professor, Department of Paediatrics at Lady Hardinge Medical College, and Dr. (Col) Jyoti Kotwal, Professor, Department of Hematology at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.
NIIMS also announced the acquisition of an advanced technology-enabled HPLC machine for the detection of thalassemia and other haemoglobinopathies, aimed at supporting screening, early detection and improved patient management in the region.
