Acronis Report Highlights Rising Cybersecurity Risks, Calls for AI-Aware Defense in India

Acronis, a global leader in cybersecurity and data protection, has released its Cyberthreats Report H1 2025, noting key global trends in ransomware, phishing, and AI-driven attacks. The findings emphasize the growing importance of advanced, adaptive security strategies for businesses in India and worldwide.

Ransomware continues to be the top global threat, with incidents rising nearly 70% compared to previous years. Groups such as Cl0p, Akira, and Qlin remain active. The report also found that phishing now accounts for 25% of all cyberattacks globally, while 52% of attacks on Managed Service Providers (MSPs) involved phishing attempts.

India, with its rapidly growing digital economy, is seeing increasing cyber activity, particularly in the manufacturing, retail, and telecom sectors. The report highlights a sharp rise in phishing attempts through collaboration apps like Microsoft Teams and Slack, along with more advanced email-based threats.

“India’s expanding digital landscape creates both opportunities and challenges,” said Rajesh Chhabra, General Manager, India & South Asia at Acronis. “Enterprises need to move toward AI-aware cybersecurity frameworks to stay ahead of evolving threats.”

The report recommends that businesses adopt multi-layered defense strategies, including behavior-based threat detection, regular software updates, email security, and employee training. Acronis notes that proactive measures will be key to safeguarding organizations against increasingly sophisticated, AI-driven cyber risks.
