World Record Honour for MET Institute of Mass Media’s Student-Led Sustainable Trophy Initiative

The MET Institute of Mass Media (MET IMM) has received a World Record from the Global Book of Excellence, England, for its pioneering student-led sustainable trophy initiative. The certificate was presented at the MET Bandra Campus by Global Book of Excellence Secretary Shrikant Kale and accepted by MET Trustee Shri Pankaj Bhujbal. Ahead of METamorphosis 2025, the institute’s annual media festival, students designed and constructed a 9.5-foot-tall trophy weighing 350 kilograms, created entirely from e-waste and eco-friendly materials to promote sustainability and hands-on learning.

The installation was built live on November 18 during a six-hour session at MET Bhujbal Knowledge City and unveiled on December 5. A team of 69 students collaborated across design, production, communication, and fabrication teams to transform discarded materials into an impactful piece of art. The initiative was driven by MET Trustee Shri Pankaj Bhujbal, supported by Senior Management Representative Smt. Vishaka Bhujbal and MET IMM Director Dr. Priya Menon Nair, with artistic guidance from visual artist Dr. Sumeet Patil. At the unveiling, Shri Bhujbal said the award reflects MET’s commitment to excellence and dedicated it to Founder Chairman Shri Chhagan Bhujbal.

Student leaders Ronak Thakkar and Althea Sequeira, along with their team, continue to oversee the creative and operational preparations for METamorphosis 2025, themed “Mediaverse – Where Thoughts Glow and Time Flows.” The eco-friendly trophy will be presented to the Best College in Mumbai based on performances across cultural, media, journalism, intellectual, and sports categories. The initiative stands as a symbol of transformation, showcasing the potential to turn waste into meaningful art.
