World Digital Detox Day Receives Global Peace Award for Promoting Digital Well-Being and Child Protection

The World Digital Detox Day (WDDD), a global non-profit movement advocating digital well-being and mental health security, has been honoured with the Global Peace Award in Dubai by the Global Peace Institute (UK) and Global Peace Organisation, in partnership with Impact Hub UAE.

Founded by Dr. Rekha Chaudhari of India, WDDD has evolved into the world’s largest digital wellness and peace initiative, spanning 78 countries and engaging over 8.5 million participants, including educators, institutions, and wellness leaders.

The movement promotes digital fasting, smartphone-free childhood, and ethical digital behaviour, positioning digital mental health and human attention as core peace rights in the age of artificial intelligence.

This year, WDDD was also recognised by the Supreme Court of India, global wellness organisations, and educational bodies for its advocacy on child protection laws and age-gated digital access, strengthening the call for global policy reform.

“Digital overload is one of the greatest public health and peace threats of our time,” said Dr. Chaudhari. “Protecting childhood and digital peace are moral imperatives for our shared future.”

Observed annually on December 10, World Digital Detox Day encourages individuals, families, and institutions to participate in Digital Fasting to promote mental clarity, human connection, and conscious tech use.
