A new study by Workday has found that while Indian employees are increasingly comfortable using artificial intelligence (AI) in their daily work, many organisations have yet to fully integrate the technology into their core business systems.
According to the report, 89% of employees in India said AI has improved their day-to-day work experience. However, only 32% reported that AI is embedded into the core systems where most workplace tasks are carried out.
The study highlighted that disconnected software and workflows continue to reduce productivity. More than one-third of employees said they spend over seven hours each week transferring information between different systems. Additionally, 56% said they spend at least half of their working time coordinating across systems and teams instead of focusing on value-adding tasks.
Despite these challenges, the report found that Indian employees remain positive about their work. More than 90% said they make meaningful progress, feel a strong sense of ownership, and understand how their work contributes to organisational goals.
Sunil Jose, President of Workday India, said employees are ready to embrace AI, but organisations need to integrate the technology into business workflows rather than using it only for individual tasks. He added that embedding AI into core operations can simplify work, improve decision-making, and help employees focus on more strategic responsibilities.
The report also found that 95% of employees have greater confidence in AI-assisted decisions when they trust the underlying systems and data, highlighting the importance of reliable enterprise platforms for successful AI adoption.
