Sapher Partners with Punjab Government to Drive Solar Energy Expansion

Renewable energy firm Sapher has announced a strategic partnership with the Punjab government to boost the state’s solar energy sector. The collaboration, undertaken with Punjab Genco Ltd., a subsidiary of the Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA), aims to accelerate the transition towards clean and sustainable energy.

Sapher’s founder, Joseph Villalobos, recently met with Shri. Navjot Singh Mandair, Chairman of Punjab Genco Ltd., to discuss renewable energy projects, particularly in high-potential locations such as Fazilka and Ferozepur. Key discussions revolved around the development of large-scale solar farms, as well as innovations in biogas and canal-based hydroelectric power.

A notable highlight of the initiative is Sapher’s proposal to install solar panel farms above canals, an innovative solution that reduces water evaporation while maximizing land use for renewable energy generation. Additionally, the discussions covered hybrid solar energy models that integrate grid supply with battery storage, ensuring greater efficiency and reliability.

The partnership also focuses on enhancing energy access in rural Punjab, where power outages remain a challenge. By deploying scalable renewable energy solutions, Sapher and PEDA aim to provide consistent and accessible electricity to villages.

Speaking on the collaboration, Joseph Villalobos stated, “By integrating solar innovations such as canal-top installations and hybrid energy models, we aim to create a sustainable ecosystem that benefits both the environment and the people of Punjab.”

This investment reinforces Sapher’s commitment to clean energy and supports Punjab’s renewable energy goals. Project timelines and implementation strategies are expected to be announced in the coming months.
