Red Fort Car Blast Leaves 8 Dead, Over 20 Injured; NIA, Delhi Police Launch Terror Probe

A massive explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort on Monday evening claimed at least eight lives and injured more than twenty others, according to officials. The blast occurred around 6:52 p.m. at the Red Fort Metro Station intersection on Subhash Marg, a busy route in Old Delhi.

Witnesses reported a loud explosion followed by a fire that engulfed multiple vehicles, including the Hyundai i20 believed to be the source of the blast. Police and fire officials arrived within minutes, and rescue operations continued late into the night.

The Delhi Police Special Cell confirmed that a case has been registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), indicating possible terror links. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) teams have joined the investigation.

The registered owner of the car has been detained for questioning. Security has been tightened across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana following alerts from intelligence agencies.

Home Minister Amit Shah said the Centre is monitoring the situation closely and “no angle will be ruled out.” Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences to the victims’ families and directed authorities to ensure the injured receive proper medical care.

As investigations continue, traffic restrictions remain in place around the Red Fort area. Police have urged residents to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
