National Video Game Day: India’s Gaming Ecosystem Levels Up in 2025

On National Video Game Day, India is being recognised as a rising power in the global gaming industry. With over 8.45 billion mobile game downloads in FY 2024–25 (Sensor Tower), India now ranks first in the world. But the country’s gaming ecosystem is expanding beyond just casual mobile games.

The growth is supported by indie game showcases, incubator programs, new technology platforms, and custom gaming PCs that are helping shape a complete gaming industry in India.

Meta has launched the Meta Gaming Accelerator to support small and medium game developers. KRAFTON’s India Gaming Incubator (KIGI) showcased Indian-made indie games at the WAVES Summit, giving developers access to investors and industry experts.

Indie Game Utsav, organised by NODWIN Gaming, featured 110 Indian PC games on Steam’s homepage during Comic Con Mumbai. NODWIN’s co-founder Akshat Rathee said the aim is to bring culturally rooted Indian games into the spotlight and help them reach wider audiences.

To support developers, Dirtcube Interactive created Specter, a backend platform that offers tools like live operations, leaderboards, and analytics. Co-founder Pravan Parikh said the ecosystem needs strong infrastructure to help indie games grow from prototypes into successful titles.

India’s PC gaming market is also picking up pace. Custom gaming brand CyberPowerPC, which completed one year in India, is making high-performance gaming PCs more accessible for Indian players.

Gaming creators and esports athletes are also driving game discovery. According to Niko Partners, 57.2% of Indian gamers find new games through streamers and influencers. Animesh Agarwal, CEO of S8UL Esports, said creators play a key role in connecting games to audiences and shaping India’s gaming culture.

With support from the government, growing investments, and increasing visibility of Indian-made games, the country’s gaming ecosystem is set for continued growth. As the world’s biggest mobile gaming market expands into PC, console, and indie game development, it is clear that the next phase of India’s gaming journey is just beginning.
