Narayana Health City has achieved a medical milestone by successfully performing Bengaluru’s first new-generation mobile bearing Total Ankle Replacement (TAR) surgery. The procedure, led by Dr. Shekar Mudramaiah, restored pain-free movement to a 64-year-old woman suffering from severe ankle arthritis.
Unlike traditional ankle fusion, which limits mobility, TAR preserves natural movement by replacing the damaged joint with an artificial implant. The specialised implants were sourced from the USA and the Netherlands, marking a breakthrough in India’s orthopedic care.
The patient’s recovery has been exceptional—she started moving within a day, walked independently in six weeks, and has resumed her daily routine pain-free. Dr. Mudramaiah highlighted the significance of this surgery in offering Indian patients an advanced alternative to ankle fusion.
This success sets a benchmark for orthopedic advancements in India, making world-class treatments more accessible.
