K. J. Somaiya Private Industrial Training Institute, in collaboration with the Institute of Packaging Machinery Manufacturers of India (IPMMI), has launched a Certificate Course in Packaging Machinery Operation and Maintenance. The course was inaugurated on 1st July 2025 along with the unveiling of a newly upgraded Electronic Mechanic Laboratory.
The initiative aims to bridge the gap between vocational training and real-world industrial requirements. The first batch has seen full enrolment with 24 students, prompting the institute to begin preparations for a second batch in January 2026.
Industry players like IMA PG India, Kenray Forming India LLP, Techno Shell Automation, and others have supported the program by donating equipment such as Omron automation kits, Thames side sensors, and Festo automation kits—enabling hands-on learning.
“This course reflects our commitment to building industry-academia partnerships that address the skills gap in India’s manufacturing sector,” said Rtd. Lt. Gen. H. S. Kahlon, Secretary, Somaiya Group. IPMMI President Mahadevan Iyer added, “We aim to develop practical skills at the grassroots level in the fast-growing packaging sector.”
With a curriculum aligned to current industry needs, the program is set to enhance employability and provide students with direct exposure to packaging technologies across industries.
