
K J Somaiya Institute of Technology (KJSIT), Mumbai, concluded a one-day workshop on “Probing the Research Process: from Idea to Impact”, bringing together participants from 57 institutions to explore modern research methods and ethical publication practices.
The workshop aimed to guide research scholars and faculty through the entire research journey — from problem formulation to impactful outcomes — while encouraging integration of industry practices, curriculum innovations, and institutional frameworks.
Distinguished speakers included Dr. Raghunath Shevgaonkar, Former Provost of Somaiya Vidyavihar; Padma Shri Prof. Deepak B. Phatak, Professor Emeritus, IIT Bombay; Prof. N. C. Shivaprakash, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore; and Dr. Nadir Nizar Ali Charniya, Professor, Vivekanand Education Society’s Institute of Technology.
Sessions covered diverse themes: Dr. Shevgaonkar discussed identifying research gaps and the role of AI in modern research, while Prof. Phatak spoke on the changing research landscape in the digital century. Prof. Shivaprakash highlighted innovation, ethics, and cross-domain collaboration, and Dr. Charniya guided participants on navigating WOS, Scopus, and avoiding predatory journals.
Organised by Dr. Vivek Sunnapwar, Principal of KJSIT, and Dr. Hariram Chavan, Professor and PhD Coordinator, the workshop also stressed ethical innovation. Dr. Sunnapwar remarked, “In a time of rapid technological change, innovation guided by ethical values is essential. We must inspire the next generation of researchers to balance originality with responsibility.”
