HCG Manavata Cancer Centre (HCGMCC), Nashik, has performed 50 robotic-assisted surgeries in 55 days using the newly introduced EDGE AI Tele Robotic Surgical System, the hospital said.
The procedures were carried out as part of the centre’s expansion of robotic-assisted cancer surgery. The technology provides surgeons with features including 3D high-definition magnified vision, enhanced robotic articulation and tremor elimination.
According to the hospital, these capabilities can support complex procedures, particularly in head and neck cancer surgery, where precision is required around nerves, blood vessels and structures associated with speech, swallowing and facial functions.
Prof Dr Raj Nagarkar, Managing Director and Chief of Surgical Oncology and Robotic Services at HCG Manavata Cancer Centre, said the milestone reflected the team’s experience in robotic surgery and the centre’s focus on expanding access to advanced surgical care beyond major metropolitan cities.
The hospital said the latest system has expanded its ability to undertake robotic-assisted head and neck cancer procedures. It added that robotic technology can help surgeons perform precise dissection while potentially reducing surgical trauma and blood loss and supporting faster recovery.
Dr Nagarkar had also completed 2,000 robotic-assisted surgeries using the Versius Robotic System in November last year, according to the hospital.
