HCG Manavata Cancer Centre Marks World Leukemia Day with Awareness Drive

On the occasion of World Leukemia Day observed on 4th September, HCG Manavata Cancer Centre (HCGMCC) called for greater awareness, early diagnosis, and timely treatment of leukemia – a blood cancer affecting thousands across India every year.

Leukemia originates in the blood and bone marrow, primarily impacting white blood cells. While it can occur at any age, children are vulnerable to Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL), the most common childhood type. Adults are more likely to face Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL), and Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML).

“The challenge with leukemia lies in its symptoms – fatigue, bone pain, recurrent infections, weight loss, bruising, and bleeding – which are often ignored. If these persist, timely consultation is vital. With innovations like CAR-T Cell Therapy and targeted therapies, we’re moving beyond treatment to actual cures. Patients in Nashik can now access such advanced care without traveling to metros,” said Dr. Priyatesh Dwivedi, Hemato-oncology and BMT Specialist, HCGMCC.

HCGMCC uses advanced diagnostic tools such as blood counts, bone marrow biopsies, flow cytometry, and molecular tests to ensure accurate staging and personalized treatment. The centre offers modern therapies including chemotherapy, radiation, targeted and immune therapies, stem cell transplants, and CAR-T Cell Therapy.

“Breakthroughs in targeted and immune-based treatments, coupled with wider stem cell transplant availability, are giving patients longer and healthier lives. Our goal is to make global innovations accessible in tier 2 and tier 3 cities like Nashik,” added Dr. Dwivedi.

HCGMCC stressed that family history, smoking, genetic disorders, radiation exposure, and harmful chemicals are common risk factors. On World Leukemia Day, the hospital urged proactive screening, early detection, and awareness as the best tools to improve survival rates.
