Congress Exposes BJP and AAP: Collusion Behind Jhuggi Demolitions – Past and Present

In a striking revelation, Satish Luthra, the Congress candidate from Shakurbasti, has exposed the concerning collaboration between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in exacerbating the plight of Delhi’s slum dwellers. Advocating passionately for the rights of the poor and marginalized, Luthra accused both parties of orchestrating a grim cycle of demolitions and displacement that has tormented the city’s jhuggi owners for over a decade. He warned that the upcoming 2025 demolition drives are a cruel replay of the 2015 failures.

Referencing the pivotal 2015 report, “Jostling for Jhuggi Land,” published in Down to Earth, Luthra underscored how thousands of the city’s most vulnerable were rendered homeless under BJP’s central leadership and AAP’s state governance. The report documented the suffering of those displaced due to political negligence and endless blame games. “Today, history is set to repeat itself,” he remarked, “as new demolition orders once again threaten the very existence of Delhi’s marginalized residents.”

“Two Faces, One Failure”

Luthra held nothing back, declaring, “In 2015, BJP and AAP collaborated in failure. Instead of safeguarding the poor, they abandoned them, caught in a crossfire of excuses and political posturing. Now, in 2025, the same tragedy is unfolding. Empty promises, forced evictions, and the politics of indifference continue to destroy countless lives.”

He accused BJP and AAP of exploiting slum demolitions for political gain, treating the jhuggi owners as mere vote banks. Despite years of lofty promises about rehabilitation and affordable housing, both parties have failed to deliver real solutions, leaving lakhs of families to live in constant fear of losing their homes.

“Who Benefits from Displacement?”

Luthra raised a critical question about the repeated slum demolitions, suggesting ulterior motives behind the moves. “These demolitions are not about beautification or development. They’re about exploitation,” he asserted. “Each time families are uprooted, we must ask: who is benefiting from this chaos? Are these lands being freed for the poor or for the profiteers of Delhi’s booming real estate sector?”

“Enough is Enough”

In a heartfelt appeal, Luthra urged the residents of Shakurbasti and all of Delhi to unite against the injustice being inflicted on the jhuggi owners. “It is time for Delhi to rise and demand accountability from BJP and AAP. We cannot allow this betrayal of our most vulnerable citizens to continue. Congress stands with the poor and the displaced, and we will fight to ensure that every family has a secure future, free from exploitation and fear.”

As Delhi faces the looming threat of mass displacements, Luthra demanded an immediate halt to the demolition drives and called for an independent investigation into the policies and decisions of BJP and AAP. “We need answers and action to protect the jhuggi owners from further harm. It’s time to rebuild Delhi on a foundation of equality, dignity, and justice for all,” he concluded.

Luthra’s impassioned stand has resonated with the residents of Shakurbasti, many of whom fear losing their homes and livelihoods. Congress’s message is clear: it’s time for Delhi to choose a government that prioritizes its people over politics and development over displacement.
