BPL Medical Technologies has acquired a majority shareholding in European medical technology company Medec, strengthening its anaesthesia and respiratory care portfolio and expanding its international presence.
The acquisition will give BPL Medical Technologies access to Medec’s specialised technologies, intellectual property and product development capabilities, including anaesthesia workstations, ventilators and three patents.
The transaction is aimed at strengthening BPL Medtech’s control over product development, technology and quality while reducing its dependence on external suppliers for anaesthesia workstations and ventilators.
Medec’s product development pipeline includes an electronic vaporiser and a value-engineered version of its Caelus anaesthesia workstation, the company said.
“ This strategic acquisition marks an important milestone in BPL Medical Technologies’ growth trajectory and our ambition to emerge as a stronger global player in medical technology,” said Guruswamy Krishnamoorthy, CEO of BPL Medical Technologies.
He said the acquisition would strengthen product capabilities, expand market access and create opportunities to leverage BPL’s global network to accelerate Medec’s growth.
Medec has a distributor network spanning more than 30 countries across Europe, the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), Southeast Asia and Latin America. Its CE-certified technologies will provide BPL Medtech with a platform to expand into additional international markets.
Kristof Braem, Managing Director of Medec International BV, said the acquisition would provide opportunities to build on the company’s existing capabilities and extend its reach through BPL Medical Technologies’ resources and international network.
BPL Medtech is also exploring the potential integration of Medec’s technologies with its Cortex AI platform as part of its medium-term technology roadmap. The proposed integration could combine Medec’s anaesthesia capabilities with BPL’s existing digital technology ecosystem.
The company said the acquisition was part of its broader strategy to strengthen technology ownership, innovation and global competitiveness.
