Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH) and the Institute of Actuaries of India (IAI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop professional learning programmes focused on emerging areas such as carbon markets, climate finance and risk management.
The agreement was signed by Dr Pankaj Priya, Dean and Deputy Director, BIMTECH, and Dr Ruchita Verma, Executive Director, IAI.
Under the partnership, the two institutions plan to jointly develop and deliver two to three certification programmes over the next year, combining BIMTECH’s expertise in management education with IAI’s actuarial capabilities.
The first programme under the collaboration will focus on Carbon Credits and Carbon Markets. It is aimed at working professionals, corporate executives, sustainability practitioners, finance professionals, risk managers, ESG specialists, consultants and students interested in climate finance.
The programme will cover areas including global carbon markets, the EU Emissions Trading System (EU-ETS), India’s Perform, Achieve and Trade (PAT) mechanism, Energy Saving Certificates (ESCerts), CORSIA, carbon futures, voluntary carbon markets and compliance frameworks.
The online certification programme is scheduled to be conducted from September 19 to October 10, 2026. It will also cover net-zero calculations and climate and sustainability risks, with a focus on the application of carbon market concepts in business and financial decision-making.
BIMTECH Director Dr Prabina Rajib said the programme aims to help professionals understand the evolving carbon economy and its implications for business, finance and risk decisions.
IAI Executive Director Dr Ruchita Verma said the collaboration would support the development of learning programmes addressing emerging professional requirements in the climate and sustainability space.
The institutions said the partnership is intended to contribute to professional capacity building as businesses and financial institutions respond to the global shift towards a low-carbon economy.
