Air India Express Receives First Custom-Designed Boeing 737-8 Aircraft

Air India Express has received its first custom-configured Boeing 737-8 aircraft, marking a key milestone in its fleet modernisation journey. The aircraft, which landed at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, is the airline’s 51st Boeing 737-8 and the first line-fit aircraft designed by Boeing to Air India Express’ specifications.

Flown directly from Boeing’s Seattle facility, the aircraft features a modern cabin focused on improved comfort, space, and convenience. It is scheduled to enter commercial service in January 2026.

The new aircraft includes ergonomically designed seats with enhanced cushioning, generous legroom, fast-charging power outlets at every seat, larger overhead bins, onboard ovens for hot ‘Gourmair’ meals, and a quieter cabin environment. It also features Boeing’s Sky Interior with mood lighting, aligned with the airline’s new branding.

With this induction, Air India Express further strengthens its position as India’s largest Boeing operator. The airline currently operates a fleet of over 100 aircraft. In 2025 alone, it inducted four A321neo, four A320neo, and three A320ceo aircraft, reflecting rapid expansion.

Commenting on the development, Aloke Singh, Managing Director, Air India Express, said the induction of the first fully customised line-fit aircraft is a significant step in the airline’s transformation. He added that nearly two-thirds of the fleet now consists of modern, fuel-efficient aircraft and that the airline has expanded its network to 60 destinations, adding 12 new destinations in 2025.

Air India Express has also begun retrofitting existing Boeing 737-8 aircraft to ensure uniformity across the fleet. Additionally, the airline continues to promote its new brand campaign, ‘Xplore More, Xpress More’, and its Tales of India initiative celebrating India’s rich cultural heritage through aircraft tail art.
