Air India Begins Partial Restoration of Flights After AI171 Incident

Air India has announced the partial restoration of its international flight schedule, which was curtailed following the tragic AI171 accident on June 12, 2025. The airline had implemented a “Safety Pause” to conduct precautionary checks on its Boeing 787 fleet and adjust for extended flight times due to ongoing airspace restrictions over Pakistan and the Middle East.

From August 1, select international services will resume or increase in frequency, with a full return to normal operations scheduled by October 1.

A notable addition is the new Ahmedabad-London Heathrow route operating thrice weekly from August 1 to September 30, replacing the existing Gatwick service.

Restored and Increased Flights:

  • Delhi-London (Heathrow): Full 24x weekly flights from July 16
  • Delhi-Zurich: Increased to 5x weekly from August 1
  • Delhi-Tokyo and Delhi-Seoul: Full weekly schedules restored by September 1

Routes with Continued Reductions Until September 30:
Several key routes—including Delhi-Paris, Delhi-Chicago, Delhi-Toronto, and Bengaluru-London—remain reduced, while services like Delhi-Amsterdam and Amritsar-Birmingham will gradually increase during August.

Air India also confirmed the continued temporary suspension of routes such as Amritsar-London Gatwick, Goa-London Gatwick, and Bengaluru-Singapore until September 30.

Despite the reductions, the airline will operate over 525 weekly international flights across 63 destinations. Affected passengers are being contacted for rebooking or refunds.
