Glue Board Manufacturers Form Association to Advance Pest Control Industry

Mumbai, August 7, 2024 – Leading glue board manufacturers have united to establish the Glue Boards Manufacturers Association (GBMA), an apex body dedicated to enhancing pest control management, particularly in rodent control. The GBMA aims to improve industry standards, safeguard public health, and protect industries from the adverse effects of rodent infestations.

Rodents, identified as a “National Pest” since 1975 by the Indian Grain Storage Management & Research Institute (IGMRI), pose a significant threat to food security and public health. With annual food grain losses due to rodents ranging from 2.4 to 26 million tons, the impact on India’s food supply is alarming.

The GBMA advocates for the continued use and manufacturing of glue traps, essential tools in pest control. The association seeks to overturn restrictive regulations from 2011 and 2020 that limit glue trap use. Mukesh Patel, Secretary of GBMA and Managing Director of Arbuda Agrochemicals, emphasized the importance of glue boards in integrated pest management strategies, highlighting their effectiveness and non-toxic nature.

“The formation of the GBMA marks a significant milestone for the pest control industry. Glue boards are vital in managing rodent populations, protecting public health, and supporting agriculture,” Patel stated. He called for regulatory bodies to reconsider restrictions and collaborate with the GBMA for balanced regulations that protect both human and animal interests.

The GBMA’s mission includes advocating for balanced regulations, promoting safe and ethical use of glue boards, fostering innovation, engaging with regulatory bodies, raising public awareness, and supporting industry stakeholders. By working together, the GBMA aims to protect communities from the risks posed by rodent infestations and ensure the continued availability of effective pest control solutions.
